Seizures and Epilepsy

TYPES OF SEIZURES

  • Absence Seizures (Petit Mal): where the person briefly stares blankly and is totally unaware of surroundings
  • Partial/Focal Seizures: altered awareness & strange behaviour such as lip smacking, fiddling with clothing
  • Tonic-Clonic (Grand Mal): where the person goes stiff, falls to the ground before jerky, convulsive movements. Here, breathing is affected and lips can turn blue. The jaw is usually clenched, they may bite their tongue and lose bowel/bladder control
