Bleeding Injuries

TREATMENT OF BLEEDING INJURIES

  • Gloves on
  • Locate and clean wound
  • Where possible, the casualty should be asked to apply direct pressure to a bleeding wound themselves
  • Do not remove penetrating objects
  • A tourniquet may be used for a serious bleed-training required
  • Dress wound
  • Send On

If the wound is to the face, then PPE should be worn to treat.

Be aware of hypovolaemic shock-we all have between 5-6 litres of blood in our bodies. Casualty can go into hypovolaemic shock if they lose 2 litres or more.
