Allergies

SEVERE ALLERGIES

More severe allergies such as nuts, shellfish or bee stings can trigger anaphylactic shock which can be fatal. The onset is normally around 5 minutes after exposure to the trigger and can become serious very quickly.

Signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis include:

  • Initial tingling of lips and tongue
  • Rapid and exaggerated swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat
  • Speaking becomes difficult and the voice becomes hoarse
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Red, blotchy and sometimes itchy skin
  • Extreme anxiety and a feeling of impending doom
  • Unconsciousness
  • Can be fatal
