I had a 17 year old school friend, who played professional football for Millwall. He developed back pain and thought he would never be able to play again. He had physiotherapy and rehab at a local Miner’s rehabilitation centre in 1985 and was able to return to football. I thought, ‘Wow – physio did that.’ I can still picture his face now.
It is a pleasure to help guide people back to their chosen activity; whether it is sport, getting back to work or simply being able to put their own socks on (as anyone with acute low back pain would testify). We work together to find out the best way to move confidently forward.
It is a real bonus being involved with patients’ rehabilitation inside Hampden, as I get the chance to kick a football about on the astro turf, see people laugh the first time they try aqua running or experience the anti-gravity running machine. Laugh and learn.
